Still Moving works are born from the gesture made by the hand onto the mouse onto the computer screen. Drawing from the idea of 'Automatic Writing' which was a term / approach to drawing that the Surrealists were working with which dealt with the idea of free drawing, meaning to let go of thought and allow a higher self be in contact with the outcome / final artwork. Free association was also being developed by Carl Jung and the ideas of the primal being innate within the self. I hold an interest in the body and its relationship with technology. I feel that the simple act of making marks by hand is being replaced with the tapping upon a typepad, hence removal from the body into a technological adaptation of self. I recently completed a Diploma in Graphic Design and have found myself to be a product of this application as an attachment to the computer including an improved ability and accuracy with this tool, while my ability at freehand writing and drawing has become less capable. I am currently shifting my the focus back to the makers mark, made by hand. These works were made before I delved into the Graphic Design.
