STILL MOVING

Still Moving works emerge from the gesture — the movement of the hand through the mouse, onto the screen. They draw on the notion of Automatic Writing, a Surrealist approach to drawing that embraced free, unfiltered mark-making: letting go of conscious thought to allow a higher self to guide the outcome. This openness echoes Carl Jung’s exploration of free association and the idea that the primal is innate within the self.My work is rooted in an ongoing fascination with the body’s relationship to technology. I sense that the simple, tactile act of making marks by hand is steadily replaced by the tapping of a keyboard — a shift away from the embodied gesture toward a technological adaptation of self.
